Teamwork saves a life

By: Cindy Claggett, Carter Lake Visitor Services Manager

When texts stopped coming from an ongoing conversation of two friends, one of which was out for a hike, the partner on the other line knew something was wrong and called for help.

Rangers Trevor Knight and Molly Buck were first to respond, as the man had fallen 50 feet off a cliff on private property! The patient was wearing clothing that matched the vegetation and terrain, making it difficult to spot him.

Molly helped spot the patient from a distance and direct Trevor towards the man. Trevor traversed a steep slope with his medical kit to reach the man who had several serious injuries. Trevor applied immediate stabilizing care, keeping the victim steady until more medical personnel arrived to safely carry him out and transport him to the emergency hospital.

The quick teamwork and actions of Trevor and Molly saved the life of a man simply “out for a hike.”
