Outdoors for all

By: Julie Enderby, Education & Volunteer Supervisor

We partnered with American Adventure Sports Club (AASC) for another great program in July. Twelve excited participants experienced Horsetooth Mountain Open Space together. Gigi Schaller and volunteers Dave Sims & Mike Rairdon assisted in connecting these newcomers to the wonders of nature. Volunteer Photographer Jeannie Sumrall-Ajero beautifully captured the fun and excitement.

For a few participants, this was their first hike ever and for a few who were new to Colorado, it was their first time in the foothills. To make the day memorable, the group spotted poults (baby turkeys) and mule deer!

Kennedy Pinkney, AASC Organization Manager, says she is getting great feedback about the experience and looking forward to more events next year. “Gigi made them feel extremely welcome and included, and the other volunteers as well! They [the participants] loved what we were doing and how we are doing it.”

I think the smiles in the photos say it all. We look forward to strengthening this partnership and assisting AASC in their mission to make the health and social benefits of outdoor adventure and conservation training, careers, and community available to underrepresented youth and adults.
