Picking up water from Carter Lake

On August 2, 2024, Carter Lake boat rangers held Carter Lake reservoir secure so water scooper planes could pull water across the expanse of the reservoir to advance firefighting efforts.

The operation was vital to firefighting operations on the Alexander Mountain Fire. In addition, planes also scooped from Horsetooth Reservoir on July 30. This was the first incident where scooper planes were used at Larimer County reservoirs to respond to a nearby wildfire.

Thankfully, the fire has been declared 100% contained and emergency managers have moved into recovery for those impacted.
